ISHAM NEWS! (18-09-2009)

Dear ISHAM member, For those of you who have participated in the ISHAM Congress at Tokyo, May 2009, just check the ISHAM website here: there is an enormous amount of photos available of the entire congress, including opening, receptions, chairpersons and speakers.

With the help of Georg Maschmeyer the ISHAM website now contains a significant number of clinical guidelines. Go to the newly organized Guidelines folder in your member area to get an overview.  You will also find numerous practical protocols in this area.

Also our International Agenda has been reorganized. It provides a complete overview of activities in medical mycology. Please inform us if your event is not on the list.

A Jacques Monod Conference “New and Emerging Fungal Diseases of Animals and Plants : evolutionary aspects in the context of global changes“ will be held in Roscoff at the coast of Brittany, France, 17-21 April, 2010. Full information can be found here. The conference is limited to 85 participants.

An International PhD Program (the Pasteur-Paris University International Doctoral program) was recently created by the Institut Pasteur in Paris, France. General information about the Program and its application procedures can be found here.

At the Hans-Knoll-Institute in Jena, Germany, two postdoc positions are available for research on mutations which play a role in infection. For application, see info here.

Michael Arabatzis, Susann Abdel-Rahman, Jong-Soo Choi and colleagues have the plan to create an ISHAM Working Group on PCR-based diagnosis of Dermatophytic infections. Ideas are currently being developed; suggestions are welcome, please contact Michael at marabatz@med.uoa.gr.

The 2nd International Conference on Drug Discovery and Therapy" (2nd ICDDT 2010) will be held in Dubai, UAE,  February 1-4, 2010. For information and program, see two files placed on the International Agenda here.

We welcome all members of ‘The Young ISHAM’. Currently we have 66 members under 36 years old from 27 countries. We hope that our initiative attracts more and more young researchers to join our initiative.

Your application will be processed as rapidly as possible. On admission to membership you will be required to pay your first year's subscription fee (currently $50.00 US). You will then receive the current year's issues of Medical Mycology, regular e-mailed ISHAM news alerts and ISHAM-SOS service, have access to the ISHAM member forum and all other correspondence for members. You will also be entitled to vote at the ISHAM General Assembly.

In case your circumstances make it difficult to afford the subscription fee, a special fund (The Carolyn Halden Fund) exists to provide member's subscriptions for one or two years. Please explain your situation to the General Secretary.
