Dear , The Wythenshawe
Hospital in Manchester, U.K. has a vacancy for a consultant infectious
diseases; see information here.

On June 28, 2011, Thompson Reuters
released its much anticipated 2010 Journal Citation Reports® (JCR),
which assigns annual Impact Factor (IF) to 10,196 journals covering science and
social sciences. There are 22 journals in the subject category of Mycology with
median IF 1.633. The IF rankings for five journals that comprehensively or
exclusively focus on human and animal pathogenic fungi are as follows: Medical
Mycology (2.329), Mycopathologia (1.810), Mycoses (1.6670), Rev Iberoam Micol
(1.074), and J Mycol Méd (0.605). Further details about cited journals,
five-year aggregate IF, and other measurements of the journals’ impact are
available from the publisher (here).
The genome of
the black yeast Exophiala (Wangiella) dermatitidis has been sequenced and
was released by Broad Institute. The data can be found here.
The assembly comprises 10 scaffolds with a total of 26,350,763 bases including
238 contigs. There is only a tiny amount of gap between the contigs in
scaffolds (0.02% of the total). The sequence is publicly available, and we ask
people interested in any large scale analysis of the data to contact
Christina Cuomo (cuomo@broadinstitute.org)
or Zheng Wang (zheng.wang@nrl.navy.mil).
A report from the
21st European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ECCMID)
and 27th International Congress of Chemotherapy (ICC) held in Milan,
Italy, May 7-10, 2011 is available on the ISHAM website here.
The main traits
of the program of the ISHAM Black Yeast Workshop in Curitiba, Brazil,
1-4 December, 2011 are now available, see here. Among the scheduled items
is a visit to a hospital with patients with chromoblastomycosis and other
infections, and other on-site discussions such as practical problems in
the hospital laboratory.
The Chinese
edition of the CBS Course Medical Mycology will take place in Nanjing,
China, 19-29 November, see
here.
The course fee of 2000 RMB includes a new CD-ROM edition of the Atlas of
Clinical Fungi, in the Chinese language. An international edition of the course
is organised in Innsbruck, Austria, 30 July – 9 August, 2012. Lectures
given at this course are in English, while personal guidance is possible in the
major European languages. For information and registration, click here.
A Keystone
Symposium on Molecular and Cellular Biology with the theme “Fungal Pathogens:
from Basic Biology to Drug Discovery” will be held in Santa Fe, New Mexico,
U.S.A., 15-20 January, 2012. Program and other information can be found
here.
