The ISHAM Working Group barcoding medical fungi had its successful first meeting at TIMM 5 in Valencia. The session contained 5 talks treated the basics of DNA barcoding, sequencing in a reference lab, the currently used genetic loci
and the future of sequence independent identification using MALDI-TOF. A short report with abstracts and the pdf files of all talks can be found here. We discussed the establishment of a unified ITS sequence database. The next meeting of the Working Group will be organized at the ISHAM congress in Berlin, Germany, June 2012, see here. If you are interested to actively participate in this Working Group, contact Wieland Meyer (w.meyer@usyd.edu.au) or Sybren de Hoog (de.hoog@cbs.knaw.nl).
