ISHAM NEWS! (6-2-2012)

Dear , the 10th Workshop of the DMYKG Consilium Mycologicum will take place in Berlin, Germany, 24-25 February, 2012, and has as theme: Antimycotic testing and therapy guidelines. The meeting is in the German language. Click here for the program.

The next ICAAC meeting (Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy) will take place in San Francisco, 9-12 September, 2012. The website will be opened soon, and some preliminary information can be found here.

The Fungus Research Team of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, U.S.A. is looking for a qualified leader. Information about the job can be found here or additionally in correspondence by Mary Brandt.

The University College of London and the British Society for Medical Mycology offer an MSc / diploma / certificate Medical Mycology via distant learning, see here.

The DMYKG-affiliated Scientia Akademie organizes a seminar on systemic fungal infections in Mainz, Germany, 16-17 March, 2012. Click here for the program. The meeting is in the German language.

The Australian research team at Sydney lead by Wieland Meyer will sequence the genome of four Scedosporium aurantiacum strains representing high and low virulent clinical and environmental isolates to enable studies to better understand the pathogenicity of this emerging human pathogenic fungus. This will be done in cooperation with Nicky Packer from Macquarie University.

The 48th British Society for Medical Mycology (BSMM) annual meeting will be held at the Mercure Cardiff Holland House Hotel, Cardiff, Wales, 29 April – 1 May, 2012. The scientific programme, online registration and abstract information are available here. The deadline for registration and abstract submission is March 14th.

Note that the deadline for abstract submission for the ISHAM Congress in Berlin, Germany in June is approaching: February 19th, 2012. Several attractive slots are foreseen for talks to be selected based on the submitted papers. Click Online Abstract Submission here.

The Molecular Mycology Research Laboratory at the University of Sydney is seeking applicants for a research assistant position with experience in molecular biology, DNA barcoding, mycology, and virulence studies using the mouse and Galleria mellonella models to determine the best DNA barcoding region for the identification of human pathogenic fungi. The project is entitled: "DNA Barcoding of Pathogenic Fungi as the Basis for the Development of Novel Standardized Diagnostic Tools". Three year position at a PSP1 level. For further information please contact Wieland Meyer.

The University of Sydney is also seeking applicants for a postdoctorial fellow position, 3 years at a PSP3 level, with experience in molecular biology, fungal genetics (including gene knockout and reconstitution), and virulence studies. The project is entitled "Uncovering the Genetic Basis of Fungal Virulence". For further information please contact Wieland Meyer.
