The Australian research team at Sydney lead by Wieland Meyer will sequence the genome of four Scedosporium aurantiacum strains representing high and low virulent clinical and environmental isolates to enable studies to better understand the pathogenicity of this emerging human pathogenic fungus. This will be done in cooperation with Nicky Packer from Macquarie University.

The 48th British Society for Medical Mycology (BSMM) annual meeting will be held at the Mercure Cardiff Holland House Hotel, Cardiff, Wales, 29 April – 1 May, 2012. The Molecular Mycology Research Laboratory at the University of Sydney is seeking applicants for a research assistant position with experience in molecular biology, DNA barcoding, mycology, and virulence studies using the mouse and Galleria mellonella models to determine the best DNA barcoding region for the identification of human pathogenic fungi. The project is entitled: "DNA Barcoding of Pathogenic Fungi as the Basis for the Development of Novel Standardized Diagnostic Tools". Three year position at a PSP1 level. The University of Sydney is also seeking applicants for a postdoctorial fellow position, 3 years at a PSP3 level, with experience in molecular biology, fungal genetics (including gene knockout and reconstitution), and virulence studies.
