Last October, 2012 a new mycetoma center was opened at Gezira State University, Sudan. Aims of the institute are the management, training and research in diagnosis, treatment and control of mycetoma at the national, regional and international levels.  The 8th European Meeting on Molecular Diagnostics will take place in Scheveningen / The Hague, The Netherlands, October 2 – 4,
2013. The emphasis of the meeting will continue to be on novel technology and its consequences for (new) clinical molecular diagnostics. The format of the meetings will also be maintained: general, introductory lectures by internationally renowned experts in combination with free presentations in dedicated workshops. Poster session and industrial exhibits will be an integrated part of the meeting. | The second “International Course of Taxonomy on Opportunistic Filamentous Fungi” will be held in Valdivia, Chile, January 21- 25, 2013. The course has a panel
of international speakers and will be taught in Spanish. Information and program can be found here. |
The “Laboratory Diagnostics in Medical Mycology: Advanced Course” will be held in Braga, Portugal 14-17 January, 2013. Current identification methods for the fungi are often based on morphology. The development of PCR and mass spectrometric and FTIR techniques, may contributed to improved diagnoses for clinical strains. A program and further info can be found here.

 The new ISHAM journal Medical Mycology Case Reports has now over 25 papers available online which are helping to shape the journal into a valuable collection of fungal cases with clinically important information for healthcare professionals, researchers and the wider public. The journal is open access and can be viewed from the ISHAM website. ISHAM members are invited to submit their interesting cases to this nice and very useful journal. |
The ISHAM Working Group Nomenclature of Clinical Fungi will organize a meeting entitled ‘A showcase of nomenclatural stability after 1F=1N’, during the CBS Spring Symposium on 11 April, 2012, in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. For program and information, click

The Turkish Society for Medical Mycology is organizing “The First National Symposium of Medical Mycology: Conventional and Novel Diagnostic Methods”. This meeting will take place in Izmir, Turkey, on 26-27 April, 2013.
