Deanna A. Sutton, Ph.D., Professor of Pathology and Administrative Director of the Fungus Testing Laboratory at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, passed away on July 4, 2017. Dr. Sutton was a key member of the Fungus Testing Laboratory for 30 years, having joined the lab in 1987. Throughout her career, she had a tremendous impact and made significant contributions to the field of medical mycology through her scholarly activity and service to the profession. Deanna helped to train numerous people in the morphologic and phenotypic identification of fungi through numerous workshops at various meetings and by individual instruction of those who rotated through and trained at the Fungus Testing Laboratory. She was also active in both ISHAM and ASM and served as an editor for the journal Medical Mycology and on the editorial boards for the Journal of Clinical Microbiology and Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy. Deanna was a dear friend and colleague to many. She touched the lives of many individuals, both professionally and personally.
